Description

It is used for treatment and prevention of low calcium levels and resulting bone conditions including osteoporosis (weak bones due to low bone density), rickets (a condition in children involving softening of the bones), and osteomalacia (a softening of bones involving pain).

Side Effects

It can cause some minor side effects such as belching or gas.

When not to use

Patients with Renal calculi, hypercalciuria, hypophosphatemia, hypercalcemia

Drugs to avoid

It may intearct with antibiotics such as Ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, enoxacin , norfloxacin, sparfloxacin,trovafloxacin, demeclocycline , minocycline and tetracycline. Some bisphosphonates include alendronate, etidronate, risedronate, tiludronate, and others.
